The serene scent of breeze-tossed meadows and summer mown-pasturage is captured in Living Libations Hay Absolute. The smooth, comforting aroma of this agrarian absolute adds an enduring, alluring middle note in pastoral perfumes and fragrant foliaged fougère colognes. In aromatherapy blends, hay hails the serenity of the summer countryside.

For a melodious meadow scentscape, add a dash to diffusers, perfumes, blends, and bath creations or a single drop neat on the wrist for the honeyed, herbal happiness of freshly made hay.

Composition: 100% Hierochloe alpine

Uses: Perfectly pleasant in perfumes and colognes. Marvelous middle note. A few drops in the bath or diffuser for sweet serenity. In aromatherapy blends, Hay hails sensations of days in the summer countryside and taps into our connection to the natural world.

Differing from our Hay Essential Oil that is steam-distilled in Corsica, Hay Absolute is prized in perfumery and is an extraction of freshly cut and sun-dried alpine sweetgrass that grows in the mountains of France. Coumarin, the aromatic lactone responsible for the honeyed, sweetgrass aroma, is liberated from the plant cells when the grass is cut and sundried.

In perfumery, swirl with citrus for a citrus-grove vibe, or with floral essences for an aroma of late-summer wildflower meadows. It is an elegant addition to fougère colognes when combined with Oakmoss and wondrous in warm, earthy autumn aromas when blended with wood and spice.

In the classic, Perfumes and Flavors of Materials of Natural Origin, Steffen Arctander writes: “Hay absolute is used in perfumery not only in “new mown hay" bases, or in combination with Flouve, melilotus, tonka bean, etc., but also as an individual note to be introduced whenever a truly herbaceous sweet undertone is required: in lavender, fougère, chypre, colognes, tea-notes, tabac notes, forest notes, and various bouquets. Interesting effects are obtained with hay absolutes in jasmine bases, and orange flower bases.”

"The term 'agrestic' refers to odors that are in some way reminiscent of the countryside or great outdoors– woods, meadows, damp earth. Here we find the complex mossy scent of oakmoss... and the sweet rich hay absolute. Vetiver essential oil could represent the earthy aspect of the agrestic family, as could patchouli..."   Jennifer Peace Rhind, Listening to Scent

"The grateful sweetness of new-mown hay, breathing refreshment."  Robert Dodsley, 1777
